Workshop from 5-8 January 2004 to determine

India's Liberal Political Strategy: 2004 and beyond”

ROAD MAP FOR LIBERALS (draft Version 1)

(based on ../debate/plan.html of 1998-1999 and the PPT presentation at  http://www.liberalpartyofindia.org/ of 2003)

Step 1: Agree on the basic ideas

Better ideas continuously emerge from discussion and debate, but action cannot be delayed beyond a point as it will amount to a contradiction and a nullification of the sense of urgency needed to change India. Agree on the basics and move on.

Step 2: Acquire and Develop “Action Facilitators” (as opposed to ‘talkers’ and self-seeking ‘leaders’)

“A leader is one who knows where he wants to go, and gets up, and goes” (John Erskine). That's all it takes. To get up and go.

Step 3: Form a political group simultaneously all over the country

Other steps (draft)

  1. Open a training school for members so that people not only understand what the group stands for but they are skilled in organizing public debate and campaigns.
  2. Propagate and further debate the currently "best" ideas at each level. Have a newsletter, etc. Talk to the people constantly. Reach out to those who will oppose the change.
  3. Make clear the penalties for unethical behaviour, and define conduct rules.
  4. If sufficiently large, and sufficiently well-funded, then register as an all-India political group.
  5. Contest the battle for the People's vote.
  6. Implement the ideas like a professionally well-oiled corporation, systematically building a new India, involving all people, i.e., in the spirit of inclusiveness.
