Workshop from 5-8 January 2004 to determine

India's Liberal Political Strategy: 2004 and beyond”

RESOLUTION (draft Version 1)

Agreement on basic principles

We resolve to adopt the document entitled, “Basic assumptions of a liberal, Version 1”. Over the course of time this document will be expanded and even modified where necessary.  We recognise the need for India to move forward into the future based on principles of liberalism. These principles insist on tolerance, mutual respect, the need for government that enforces the rule of law and protects the individual, and minimal interference by government in the affairs of the citizen.

Need for a liberal alternative

For over 50 years now, India has had governments that do not respect the rule of law, interfere in the ordinary economic affairs of citizens, or impose religious principles or opinions on matters historical or current. Consequently, India has severely underperformed in comparison to its potential, at great loss to its citizens. Liberal principles and policies are the need of the hour as only they can lead India out of this unfortunate state of affairs. Existing political platforms have reached a serious point of breakdown of ethics and principles of welfare. Very few good people now join politics, which requires men and women who have attained the highest state of wisdom and integrity and are thus capable of ordering an entire society. In the absence of a complete absence of platforms for men and women of integrity and sound political and economic principles, is necessary that an alternative platform be created where such good men and women can work together for the transformation of India.

Need for liberals to work together

We resolve to work together as a team to examine, motivate, and put into place a liberal platform that would be robust in terms of quality and integrity, and durable in terms of longevity. Our Vision, Mission, Values, Goals, Objectives and defined in the document entitled, “India's Liberal Political Strategy: 2004 and beyond”.

Design principles of a political alternative

As a first take on the requirements for provision of such an alternative, we adopt the document entitled, “Design principles of a liberal political platform, Version 1”. This document will be further improved and used in the design of a Constitution of an alternative liberal platform.

Action plan for 2004

In pursuance of the resolve to work together, we adopt and commit to implement the document entitled, "Liberal Action Plan 2004”.
