ENTRY Barriers to entry * Ensure that only pure liberals, who believe in integrity and have no significant “skeletons” in their cupboards can enter the party * Place a significant membership fee. Prevent political career seekers
or false supporters. STRATEGY Quality, not speed * Build party workers * Do not contest elections until fully ready Resilience * Be prepared for years, if not decades, in the political wilderness. If anybody enters the party for short-term personal gain, they will destroy the party. People need to be fully committed for a lifetime of effort and persuasion. Tenacity of purpose * The party has to be tenacious like a bulldog, never losing heart, and never letting go, no matter how bleak the environment becomes. No compromise with secularism and liberalism * Never ever consort with parties the do not have the same
principles PROCESS Set expectations of teamwork * Never tolerate ‘leaders’
or self-promoters. Liberals work as
a team * Never tolerate a person on the Executive Council who does not
challenge any view that the person does not agree with. Discipline and unified resources and action * While the party needs bold and free participants, who speak up at the appropriate opportunity, it will be destroyed by people who insist on speaking at inappropriate occasions or without authority. There must be unqualified and complete unity of policy and action. Those who are unable to participate in a strictly disciplined approach (which includes free expression at the appropriate moment) would have to be disciplined failing which the party would have to without them. Espirit de corps * Conscious efforts to build espirit de corps would be required. Integrity within the party * Ensure rigorous audit of the party and strict adherence to democracy and the rules Destroy the evil before they destroy the party * Nip the evil in the bud: It is crucial that people of low
character be identified and expelled as soon as possible. Internal judiciary *Set up an independent and competent judicial panel that would quickly decide on disputes that may arise from the questions relating to the integrity of party members. The standards of this panel would have to be higher than the standards in the general society and under the law. |
