As far as relying on oneself I agree with you completly. I also agree
with you that US values its self-interests above everything else.
However, you are way out of line when you say that "It is primarily
governed by the arms lobby". If you look at US-Israel relationship you
will realize the US has stood by its ally even when it has been
attacked for siding with Isreal. This is also the same country which
did not exploit Germany and Japan after winning world war II and infact
helped build the Europe under Marshall plan. My point is very simple.
Instead of criticizing US left and right which has become fashionable
lets take an objective view. US is not a perfect country. It has made
mistakes and many times screwed lots of people all over the world. But
I am absolutely sure that basic values that US is founded on are really
great and these unique values of freedom and democracy that guide this
Nation. So India will do well to treat US as an natural ally and
develop long term relationship with it. We did a great mistakes during
Cold War and we should not repeat it again.
