yesterday (May 11th, 1998) was another glorious day in the history of
Independant India for " BUDDHA SMILED AGAIN" after 24 years. Yes I was
thrilled to hear about the nuclear detonation. And the man on the street
seems least affected by this. The business is going on as usual. But
that is just common for only 11% of the popualation is living in the
cities where the BBC and CNN has truly come in. So it is we who are
thinking about the fallouts and sanctions. The common man is still
worried about the daily bread nuclear or no nuclear.
So it becomes our , the so called educated Indians, moral responsibility
to see to it that we stop this worrying about the fallouts. For if we
only start saying that it was wrong then that is what the 89% of India
will start believing.
Tell me do you want to be ruled by others . Ask all those who fought the
British. Then we have been living under the US rule it seems all these
years.
All along we were being discriminated. So it is all the more correct
that we showed what we are and that we wont buckle under pressure.
I know the concerns are not small . But tell me what can a US sanction
do to us. If it could not break Iraq then we are more powerful and self
sufficient than Iraq.
We can put a counter sanction on US and ask Pepsi and Coke and Motorola
and Siemens to leave. Can US afford that. I dont think they can. We are
the market. And nobody closes shutters to the market.
All the same we have to give out the idea that we will not use Nuclear
power for aggression. This is not just the responsibility of the Indian
government and the media but each one of us . Those who are in alien
lands should now work as ambassadors and tell all those around him/her
that we believe in peace.
But all the same. This one thing will put to rest the queries that I
saw on nukkad asking
did we need a "NERVELESS PRIMEMINISTER".
Well DONE INDIA
