Issue of uniform clivil code

The issue of uniform Civil Code has been brought up time and again by
various parties with a goal of having one set of laws for all Indian
citizens.  Our elected representatives have cited religious freedom and
fair treatment for the Muslim minority, to continue to allow (or refuse
to act against) the two civil codes in India.

Why don't we be consistent and in the interest of religious freedom also
allow our Muslim citizens to follow the Islamic Criminal Code?  If they
need to follow a their own Civil Code, then why not follow their own
criminal code as well? Would they consider losing an arm for petty theft
and getting stoned to death for adultery? And if not a separate Criminal
Code, then why a separate Civil Code.
