The Union Cabinet has decided to allow Direct to Home Television services in
India with Foreign investment participation. It means that Indians, at least
those who can afford will be able to watch all the useless programs on their
Idiot Boxes by means of small satellite dishes and set - top boxes. No
problems with that, if that is what people want to do.

However curiously the operators will not be allowed to provide fax, voice,
data and internet services by this method. Can anyone enlighten us on why the
government should restrict dissemination of information and cheap
communication while encouraging worthless entertainment programming.
