Digressing from the topic abt the reasons of US govt
employees' honesty, I would like to reiterate the fact
that one of the reasons that in India the corruption
levels are high is because of the disrespect given to
education and also to the importance of resources - be
it public resources, natural resources or for that
matter the basic human resource.
People are treated cheaply with no respect given to a
person's qualifications and money ruling the roost, so
why won't someone give up the thought of a decent job
and get into something that can get him more money
albeit the back door way?
It is the increasing population and not enough well
paying jobs, that there is an increased pressure on
people to make money illegaly so that they can support
their families - frankly, get the population under
strict control, and I am sure there will be a major
impact the way people think - I think education about
population control and the means for providing the
effective tools for the same without being embarrassed
about it is critical for making people honest.
Also this is another factor which makes people take a
casual route in dealing with issues. With more and
more people everywhere, there is a very strong
pressure on the psyche of the common man that if (s)he
has to deal with a chain of people to get some work
done, (s)he is better off not doing it at all.
Ultimately, it is the psychological factors that I
think are undermining the whole system leading into
malices of corruption.
See to it that people have less number and more
educated people to deal with in processes and things
will improve and the only way to do it is to
unabashedly make people realize that population
control is a must...
I think that is one problem we are not dealing with
effectively, to strictly enforce laws or give
incentives to people with smaller and better managed
families along with incentives for a good education
and jobs for people with smaller families.
Maybe along with the discussions about improvement of
policies here, there must be strong emphasis on
discussing psychology of the masses and the role of
mass media in disseminating such informaiton to people
and maybe devising laws to make people understand that
a high population is a strict no no for progress...
And I am sure that the Indian educated mind is so very
creative that they can come up with ways to do this in
a very good amount of time if the govt can play a very
important role in initiating the process with the
right spirit.
