No - the defination of poverty in India is based of the calories required
for Living - Last I kenw for females it was 2400Kcal per day. This is then
converted to the minimum purchasing power necessary in that region to get
these calories. Thus it takes into account the variation - city by city -
that you are taking about

I would like to know whether a definition exists for people living under
poverty line based on salary paid to them.
For e.g. if an employee draws a salary of Rs  3500/-pm and lives in Mumbai

and has no other earning can we say that he lives below the poverty line.
