I think it is a myth to think there is no corruption in US. Infact, I
have
been going to the US (having stayed there) a couple of times a week for
the
last two decades. The service is going down, there is significant
corruption, people in the Government offices do not do much work.......
All
the ills that plague any society are also in the US. The quantum may
differ
since the basic life essentials are available for all and there are
surpluses. Visible Corruption comes in societies of shortages. So, while

I
love the US and consider it my second home, it would be a folly to
idolise
it and compare India to US. I believe, India has a lot of lessons to
draw
from other countries (including the US)but guaged from where it has
reached
today compared to where it was, it deserves praise.
Given the constraints, I truely believe India has does a reasonable job
(sure there are a lot of things that could be better and could have been

done differently) of its economy. Everyone knows of the problems. There
is a
constant search for SOLUTIONS TO THE COMPLEX problems faced and not
oversimplistic aspersions. The challenge of this forum is how we can
debate
the issues on understanding the ground realities and finding an
appropriate
solution that is workable.

Is it possible for us to focus on top ten issues and identify them to ve

discussed over the next three months. Then we can take each one and
debate
the facts if the champion can prepare a fact that could be circulated.
Once
this is done, only comments allowed would be counter facts or
opinions/comments on the facts not on individuals. Once all the
researched
facts are out, we could arrive at a concensious of the top three
problems of
that issue and then debate only the solutions to that. Then we can work
on a
final draft. Some of this is being attempted to be done by a few but
somehow
I feel a little professionalism could help from all of us. I am
confident
this will be a rewarding experience. Do you think this could be done?

Just want to be helpful in seeking a direction and no aspersions being
cast
on whatever is being done. I somehow feel many of us are ( and rightly
too!)
voicing our opinions and gut feels whether they are supported by facts
or
not. Once all of us have the facts in front of us, the richness of the
debate would be phenominal.
