Summary of debates: by Karthik

Dear folks,

Our joint debt of gratitude just increased. Karthik has submitted his
weekly summary - this time on capitalism vs. socialism. I am enclosing his
note about what this summary contains.

The summary is available at:

Sanjeev,

Since capitalism, socialism and the policy changes needed are
inter-related, I have combined them. But the document is growing big.
The attached doc. is part-I. The second part would be with you by
next week.

Regards.

Thanks, Karthik, once again. Your work I am sure has become absolutely
indispensible to the new members who will find the task of searching the
archives on any given topic, pretty mind-boggling. In due course, I think,
we will have to start working on further trimming down these summaries
into a list of points of at most 2-3 pages on any given topic. After all,
there is a lot of white noise in the summaries which can be filtered out.

Call for volunteers:

Once again, let me remind folks that there is a LOT of work to be done: I
promise you - your work will not be in vain. That's a personal guarantee.
I will compensate you in 'Satisfaction Dollars' redeemable when India
becomes the richest nation in the world, a 100 years down the road (even
with the best policies that we are recommending).

The key to influencing change is proper and focused communication. I think
what has been in the mind of the 'organizers' (actually, as you would have
noted, we are all individuals here and there are no 'real' organizers) is
a 1 page flyer on critical topics which can be put up in the PDF format on
the web page for downloading and printing anywhere in the world. These
flyers would be 'test-marketed' and if found good, would then be
translated into all the National languages for use in the villages.

The flyers should contain more or less the consensus of the List, and
should be 'formally' approved before being put up for dissemination.

Since this concept is not yet established through an example, let me spend
some time in the coming days in preparing a draft flyer. Then others can
join in and prepare flyers on topics of their interest.

Well, great work, Karthik, once again!
