Sorry but your facts are just wrong. the transistor was invented at AT&T
Bell
Labs. As to internet research, yes, it was mostly funded by the US Dept
of
Defense though I don't see the military application then or now. As to
the
impossibility of civilian funding for such projects, I find your
statement un
supported. A simple counter example to your argument is space
exploration- NASA
is a civilian agency.
